Fun Facts, Did you Know?

Mr. Marc Whitlock spent thirty years in education as a band director and school administrator. As an educator, his prior appointments include being a band director for Marian Catholic High School in Illinois, Hebron High School in Texas, and the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park and Discovery Middle School in Michigan. During his time as a band director his bands earned consistent superior ratings at band festivals, commissioned several new band compositions, was awarded the Mark of Excellence from the Foundation of Music Education, earned the UIL Sweepstakes Award, fourteen state marching band championships, eight Bands of America national class championships, and three times was named the Bands of America Grand National Champion. His bands were also selected for performances at the Music For All National Concert Band Festival and for the Presidential Inauguration.

  • Music Manager for Emmy and Tony award winner – “Blast! – The Musical”
  • Chief Judge, Winter Guard International Winds Division.
  • Educational Clinician for Conn-Selmer, Inc.
  • Design Team member and Music Coordinator for The Cadets.
  • Marian Catholic High School: Three-time Bands of America Grand National Champions. Illinois State Champions each year. Undefeated in the State of Illinois Concert Band Contest every year.
  • Plymouth-Canton Educational Park: National Finalist in Bands of America Grand National Championships, Michigan State Champions, Music For All National Concert Band Festival featured ensemble.
  • Hebron High School: BOA Class Champions and Finalist. Superior ratings at UIL for concert and marching contest selections, UIL Sweepstakes Winner.
  • Discovery Middle School: State of Michigan Winner of the Foundation of Music Education’s Nationals Wind Honors Project. Consistent Superior ratings at regional and state festivals.
  • Recipient of school district’s “Extra Miler Award” and “Marathon Award” for outstanding work ethic and student dedication.
  • Bands selected to perform (through national audition process) for the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival. This achievement was accomplished three times with two different schools.
  • Instructed featured performers for the closing ceremonies of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
  • Instructed featured performers for the 2001 Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C.
  • Instructed featured performers for the NBA All-Star game.
  • Instructed featured performers for World Cup Soccer Championships.
  • Winner of multiple Drum Corps International World Championships and Best Brass titles.
  • Recipient of Certificates of Commendation from the states of New Jersey and Kentucky.
